= Cypher = Shinon64
Hi! Introduce yourself!
Hi! My name is Shinon64. Japanese people call me Jimon.
Who is the best ship girl and why?
The best ship girl is Hibiki! She is the best because is both brave and cute! Also, it looks like she can drink a lot of beer! I envy her! XD
You made Day 2 of worlds, currently 5-0 in NPA (as of Week 6), and the NB Invitation 4 champion. How do you feel about your current success?
Good! I'm satisfied about my results! I wasn't going to play in the Invitational until a few weeks ago since I had a bad schedule. But, my Japanese friends and Arash urged me to think again. I'm very grateful towards them. However, my just one regret is if spend more time for worlds team, I would have gotten a better result.
Playing in worlds, the invitational, and NPA meant that you had to play international players. How does playing international players compare to playing Japanese players?
Basically, I don't change the way I play an international player. Though, I always check the worlds metagame, as well as making sure I have every worlds competitor's national/regional team for this year.
Throughout those events, you have used many different teams, for example your Tauros team for Battle road Gloria and your Azumarill team for the invitational How do you come up with the idea of these teams, and how do you go about practicing them?
I am always looking for ideas and teambuilding. To me, playing Pokemon is teambuilding, and I'm not exaggerating. I don't want to use the same core team with other players for several reasons. We may have speed ties, same moves, and same style of playing. Those are unfavorable situation for a decisive win in my opinion.
I haven't played many games for team practice other than checking the metagame. Conversely, I have played a lot of games for the metagame, but I will correctly understand the concept of the team before I practice in order to raise the quality of my practice. It's nonsense to practice without thinking.
What have gotten you interested in Pokemon and VGC?
I like VGC strategies a lot. That made it really attractive for me since there are many different types of strategies, such as standard, rain, sand, Perish Song, Trick Room, etc. Also, I like competition. I seriously played basketball until
high school before I started to play VGC. But I got hurt, and at that time I found VGC.
For how long have you played VGC? How has it affect your life?
I've played VGC since 2012. I was training my Hariyama for the first time. The next Pokemon I trained was Togekiss < 3. My Pokemon life isn't really involved in my real life, but it helped with logical thinking for me. For example, I am always thinking ,''at this time, what should I do for safety?'' when I must select something.
Besides Pokemon, what else do you like to do for fun?
Basically, I like to listen to anime songs and to read many books. Also, I like reading books by Haruki Murakami. In addition, I started playing Hearthstone 1 month ago.
You have mentioned before that you work. What kind of work do you do? Do you enjoy your job?
I'm a writer for a Pokemon site. I mainly write as much as possible, for example, Pokemon spread, strategy, team and other off topics. And yes, I enjoy writing them! I'm glad to be able to write my thoughts.
Do you currently go to school? If so, what do you study or what did you study?
Yes, and I'm studying education. But, I think there are more things in the future that I would like to learn about. Recently, I have became interested in e-sports and system engineering.
How come you decided to study education?
I originally liked knowing something. But I couldn't study in a good environment at my high school years for some reason. I was dissatisfied with such a thing, and thus I wanted to know more of the essential things about education.
What do you plan to pursue in the future?
I'm thinking of variety things for jobs. at least. I can say that I hope to be involve with games in future, in someway.
Last, what is the origin of your username?
Jimon is just nickname. School friends call me Jimon; I don't know why Jimon lol, maybe that's from my real name. Shinon64 is from Sword Art Online 's Shinon and my birthday. Her cool and pride is my longing. Those are very simple reasons!
Anything you want to say to the readers before the interview ends?
Thank you for listening to my story! I was a bad player in my first year, but
I spent a lot of time practicing. And now, I became so/so player. Please do
not forget that practice is necessary in day-to-day efforts in
Pokemon!
